This is a museum creation and branding project from my Visual Communications class I took during my first semester of the Graphic Design Program. Part of the project was a group effort to create an identity for an interactive museum experience for a specific demographic. The other was to do individual branding solution for the museum. At the end of the semester the group presented the museum and their own solution to the rest of the class in a studio, in front of cameras. My group and I came up with a museum that would support the local mural scene in Sacramento and provided a place to keep a historical archive of the murals that have been painted. We derived the name Wundrhaus from the Bauhaus and wanted to have similar principles represented in the museum. We created a fun and inviting location for people to learn about the art of mural painting and gave guests a chance to experience it themselves through live mural installations within the museum. For my solution of the branding, I wanted to create a logo that was very clearly associated with painting. So I chose to focus on a paint brush that had the initials of the name of the museum in it. I used the W and the H to create the bristles of the brush and took inspiration from the perspective of the building of the museum. I chose different tints of blue for the color of the bristles to evoke a sense of fun and also wisdom. To balance the abstract bristles and to ground them I used a realistic brush handle in a complimentary shade of orange. The type treatment has the W and the H capitalized to connect to the paint brush bristles and Sacramento is all lowercase beneath. This was an extremely challenging and fun project that sparked curiosity and a desire to become more familiar with company branding and identity kits.
